Words of power are coming to the Faire for our third Literary Festival (LitFest)!

Over the ten days of the LitFest, there will be talks by authors, discussions, creative writing sessions and performances.

Our headline speaker this year is the very popular real word fantasy writer, Seanan McGuire, author of, among others, the October Daye series of modern fantasy.

This year  we will again by emphasising creation, as a number of the leaders of creative writing groups in Second Life bring their regular events to the Faire, and welcome newcomers who want to join in with such events.

And there is our own special daily story and poetry writing challenge. Every day, we will be inviting you to put your Fantasy Faire experience into words.  The Faire is brimming with stories: breathtaking builds and fantastical creations designed to touch your heart and soul.  What stories do they inspire in you?

We will be repeating our very successful Fantasy Faire LitFest Tours, leaving daily from our home base to explore the Fantasy Faire Continent. We will be seeking the stories of the Fairelands – along with special secret places and details, and each day a Guide will lead a tour to one of the Fantasy regions. Explore … and open yourself up to what inspires you, what detail or overall impression sparks a poem, micro-fiction, or short story.

And you will be able to hear some of the stories and poems that people wrote last year, as we have turned this into special recordings that will be broadcast on Fantasy Faire Radio.

With only ten days, our Tours this year focuses on just ten of the regions, but we hope you’ll be inspired by other regions too, to share stories. And to lead that, we will have special explorations of the other regions too.

We are also planning to have some fascinating discussions with a number of different people, and we’ll  have authors reading their works.

We also have talks from people involved in the stories that underlie two very different regions. and storytelling with some of the best known storytellers in Second Life.

We will have Open Mic sessions led by well known poets and writers, and sessions which open with reading but which invite the audience to contribute too.

And then there is a performance of a magical production of Much Ado About Nothing, by the Faireland Players.

Every year, we feature a special author for the LitFest, In our first year it was Terry Pratchett, last year (the 400th anniversary of his death), we celebrated William Shakespeare. This year on Wednesday April 25th, we shall be celebrating the great J.R.R.Tolkien. Tolkien Day Information.
