Faire Wrap Party

Dancing It Up In Fantasy Faire by Alisaundra Andel
Dancing It Up In Fantasy Faire by Alisaundra Andel

We have to have one, right? It’s June, withdrawal has kicked in, something must be done! Fortunately there’s plottings and plannings going on, and Lauren Thibaud sent the following note to the Faire-groups:

“Hi all! As you know, the Fantasy Faire has ended. While our heads hang with hearts broken, we do have have another chance to see our Faire friends, renew our resolve and dig in to fight this disease. Let’s all meet on Saturday June 13th at any time between 12 noon and midnight to raise awareness and maybe a few lindens for our team. Party at Selidor (the Fallen Gods sim) for dancing, bad behavior and a very interesting bunch of auction items! See you there – or just be square. Or even round – we don’t judge.”

Consider this your official invitation to come and hang out with other Faire Folk on Saturday. There’ll be DJs, extremely special auction things (and stuff) and I did hear some whispers of a possible dinkie conga line at some point…

As you arrive to Selidor, follow the lights along the beach to the right until you find the party!

The Teachings of the Fairelands

I thought I said it all last year when I felt compelled to scribble this piece, but no. Fairelands always draw out thoughts from me, drifting in the air, dancing around, just waiting to be shaped in words.

I have learned many things in the Fairelands during the years. I have learned that miracles are possible. I have learned that on any worthwhile quest you need companions that you can rely on. I have learned that no one can do everything alone, that every great project and adventure needs the skills and the will of many working together, cooperating.

I have learned that defeating great evils and achieving great deeds is never just one moment in time, but always a long chain of events where every step is important, every encounter meaningful, every small decision and turn on the road weaving together the epic we see in the end.

Sometimes we wish we could retrace the steps, choose left instead of right, take a shortcut, do things differently. This is where and when we learn for the future: in quests, in the Faire, in life. Every year things go better and flow smoother because we choose to learn from the last time. Regret in life is an important emotion, but only if it acts as a teacher for the future. It is not a punishment, it is not a land of sadness to dwell in, it is a guide to do better the next time.

Fairelands grew to unforeseen size this year. It grew and it bloomed. I believe it is because its gardeners and caretakers love it so, the enchanted lands that return to us every year to remind us of the importance of beauty, magic and hope. To remind us that life is always now and here and we should embrace it before it fades away. The short time the Fairelands stay close enough to our realm to visit has always been the perfect metaphor of life for me. Full of magic and beauty and always too short. There’s always things we would have wanted to do still, sights we didn’t get to see, people we didn’t have the time to properly hang out with. This is why every moment is precious.

This year the caretakers of Fairelands have had more volunteers and helpers than ever before: people approaching us, eager to help with the daunting task that returning the Fairelands always is. We have also heard loving words and sentiments about what the Fairelands mean to its visitors. Every message has brought smiles and happiness with it, every helper has made the cherished task easier, the magic flow smoother. This year the Fairelands have been full of love, respect and appreciation.

I wish to relay the happiness and gratitude the whole Fairelands caretaker team feels toward everyone who helped to bring the magic back and offer our sincerest thanks to every visitor who came to join the enchantment. All of you are a part of the Fairelands, all of you make the continent alive.

The magic that anchors the Fairelands to our realm will fade within today, by our estimation. The exact time is a mystery even to us and in the hands of the higher realm called Linden Lab.

Until then, feel free to still walk on the paths, swim in the seas and rest under a cherry tree. Breathe in the magic and let it guide you the rest of the year, let its teachings remind you that every moment should be appreciated, embraced and fully, truly lived.

Thank you.

Meet Our Sponsors: Merchants of Dreams

Sweetgwendoline Bailey of ~*Sweet Revolutions*~  and Eldowyn Inshan of United InshCon form together Merchants of Dreams, the duo behind the design and build of Sylvan of Spells, the sim they are also sponsoring. They now share the backstory of the sim and what it means to them to be building a Faireland once more.

You two are both sponsoring Fantasy Faire and building one of the Fairelands: Sylvan of Spells. What made you decide to join, sponsor and contribute?

Eldo: It is a wonderful idea to create a Faire that is charitable. It also gives me great pleasure to support this good cause.

Gwen: There are several good reasons for me to support the Fantasy Faire. Cancer is an evil disease, which might hit everyone of us. It doesnt matter of age, confession, social or ethnic background. Affected people and their families have to face this disease out of a sudden and need to deal with all struggles that come along. Knowing that we as merchants in SL are able to support the RFL foundation is the main reason for me to join, trying to help affected people at least a very little.

Personally I have already lost very dear ones to cancer. Good friends of mine passed away at very young age already and last, but not least I also lost my beloved grandma to cancer as well. None of us knew about her serious disease, just 2 weeks before she passed away, we did celebrate her birthday, laughed, planning a vacation in fall, but sadly life had other plans. I do know, that SL is just a little part of our lives, but I like to take the chance and opportunity to support the Fantasy Faire with my building skills and creativity. If any of that helps to cheer people up, brighten up their lives, make them forget about bad things, I feel honored to do so.

How was Sylvan of Spells born? What inspired it, what is its story?

Gwen: Last year we designed the Fantasy Faire sim “Heavenslough”, it has been our first year as world creators and we were so nervous, but also happy for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community. We never expected that this will happen again and so we feel honored that Elizabeth asked us again to create one of the Fantasy Faire sims for this year.

Therefor I would like to tell this little story:

Last year, Runa and Eldo did scare me. They both said that they have to talk serious to me and that we have to clear something out. My first thought was… Oh hell what have I done? I supposed they both were angry with me. After a bunch of seconds they both started laughing and told me that we have the honor to create a sim for the Fantasy Faire.

So this year I took the chance for a little revenge *evil grin*
After Elizabeth contacted me and asked if we want to create a sim for this year’s Fantasy Faire again, I called Eldo. I told her to sit down and take a deep breath. She asked me what happened and I knew this was the right time to pay back to her.

I told her to be very brave now and that we have to clear something. She took a deep breath and asked what happened. I did wait a few seconds but couldn´t hold back and told that Elizabeth contacted me and asked if we want to create a sim for the upcoming Fantasy Faire.
Right at once we started brainstorming and “Sylvan of Spells” was born.

Story – Sylvan of Spells:

In a far away land, inbetted of huge mountains, peacefully lies the “Sylvan of Spells”, a magical forest full of shy and mystic creatures and peculiar vegetation. Old tales tell about a powerful magician, who lived in a huge pompous library far in the west. It has been his quest to protect the other residents due to the power of the four elements and to spread their words and stories into the rest of the world, so their myths was kept alive.

The stories told about huge trees with roots as large, that people could live in them and about grasses with luminous runes dancing in the wind and filing the meadows. About flying creatures with wings of book pages, easily mistaken for a common butterfly at first sight and from shining lights, wandering across the lake with its isles, playing a smooth melody which cast a spell over anyone listening.

But one day in happened, that the magician disappeared and so did the ancient book of knowledge and the four crystals of elements. The stories and wisdoms of “Sylvan of Spells” vanished, the knowledge about the powerful source of the elements got lost. Only a few myths kept alive.

Are you prepared to find the lost crystals of elements? Are you brave enough to plunge into the infinity of magic spells and to unleash the 4 elements? It is time to start your journey, start the adventure about the “Sylvan of Spells”…

What are you bringing to the Faire this year?

Eldo: I built a small library and created a few little items that will certainly be to the guests liking. Unfortunately I have been lacking time to create more as I was completely absorbed with the build up of the Faire Sim. ^^

MoD Fairelands Tree

Gwen: This year I added the four elements fire, water, air and earth into my creations and started a new line of trees, decoration and roleplay stuff. Also the literature and music theme is a part of the new line, as you will find Flying Book Moth and Flying Music Souls.

SR Flying Book Moth
What is the best thing about building in Second Life? Which things inspire you, make you happy and satisfied when creating?

Eldo: You can fulfill your dreams in a way that would never be possible RL. For example: a talking duck in battle armour that requests road toll.

It makes me happy to create things that people use for their RP; e.g. : a medieval lawn mower – a sheep with a drivable box

Gwen: Building in SL means more to me, than just stacking prim cubes. Every building is created and based on a idea, a fantasy. Every creation carries feelings and memories, has a soul of its own.

The medieval and fantasy theme is fascinating me. It feels like to plunge into a world of secret mysteries and darkness, it allows me to create my own fantasies and stories.

Also I feel happy to watch people using my creations, see them exploring, and roleplaying with them, to see them in a new content. I feel good by making others happy with my creations, no matter if for roleplay or goofy objects, like my creation of a rideable truffle pig.
To build in SL allows me to take part in the life of others, and allow others to take part in my life. I feel at peace then.

What are your favourite fantasy realms?

Eldo: Games of Thrones, Vikings, Lord of the Rings, Hobbits,
The Physician (Der Medicus), – my Quack set for RP is based on this movie.

Gwen: I love the medieval and fantasy theme. Books from Wolfgang Hohlbein, Alfred Bekker, Brandon Sanderson, Cornelia Funke, Anne Rice and also a lot of movies and series like Pans Labyrynth, Never Ending Story, Momo, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Brother Grimm (the old fairytales of my childhood) , they all inspire me.

Also the Roleplay in Second Life does. They lure me into a complete different world for hours, let me be someone else and that is something you cannot explain, you have to feel it yourself 🙂

Do you have a favourite Faire memory? What are you looking forward to most in this year’s Faire?

Eldo: The wonderfully beautiful memorials, that have been created for families and people who suffered a tragic loss. My wish is for the Fair to be as successful this year as it was last year.

Gwen: There is no special favourite Faire memory to me. To be a part of this wonderful community, to meet such creative and dear people from all over the world, to share time with them by a “unicorn hug” or “coffee and chocolate sessions” is just amazing. To see, how the Fairelands grow from desert areas overflow with flamingos into different amazing world is pure pleasure to me. All of this together builds my favorite memory.

Thank you, Eldo and Gwen, for taking the time to talk with us. Thank you for bringing Sylvan of Spells to life and for providing such a fitting place for sharing stories in!

Daily Recap: Sunday

FF2015 - Events and Entertainment - FaireChild_002
The FaireChylde in Wildehaven Marsh – Picture by Wildstar Beaumont

Sunday, our last day, was bittersweet. It always is. Everyone wants the Fairelands to stay just a little bit longer, no one wants the fun to end, but the feel of completion as the Live Auction closes is profound. It was done, and it was good. So very good.

In the Literary Festival — one of the new events within the Faire and judging by how well it went and how popular and beloved it became — definitely a returning one, we had one last session. Saffia Widdershins discussed stories within stories, speaking of the narrative of our Lost Land hunt. Such a perfect way to wrap these discussions.

The roleplay groups have also concluded their storylines: NeoVictorians have safely traveled home, the Trial of Lut challenged the Sanctuary RP Community with a surprise ending and yesterday The Rickety Weasels finally managed to save Poppetsborough after freeing the Paper Wizard and returning light to the beloved popup book world.

The dance and particle performances had their last encores. They have been a new addition to the Faire as well and judging how incredibly popular they have been, I dare say we will see them again. Poseidon’s Abyss hosted Shining Starlettes, “Fantasme” by The Night Theater and “RFL Butterfly Strong” and ColeMarie Soleil returned to one more original music and particle show in Ichi-go Ichi-e.

In a rush to catch all the criminals before the Fairelands fade, the Tiny Sheriffs had two jail & bails.

J&B Clover & Dru
Infamous Litterbug Tinies: Clover Dezno & Druscilla Ferraris

Seems Clover Dezno and Druscilla Ferraris never learn their lesson! Every year these infamous tinies get arrested and thrown into prison by their fellow tinies. This time the accusation was most dire: littering our beloved Fairelands with toona cans. The perfectly legit and not-at-all-photoshopped evidence also showed them racketeering, money laundering, tampering with evidence and applying sporks to dolphins!

J&B Clover & Dru Evidence
Completely legit and truthful evidence.

Despite such a clear-cut case the Faire Folk decided to bail them out and set the tinies free for the amazing bail of 141,250 lindens! Guess we can clean up a few toona cans with that money. I just hope that by the next year they haven’t come up with something even worse!

The officers of the Pawlice had to rush to Spires of Andolys to deal with the dangerous Dwarfin criminals right after. You would have thought that after last year they had learned their lesson, but no! Perhaps Commander Xavian Starsider’s one and only apology ever to Judy Chestnut last year gave them an idea of being above the Long Paw of Law. Coming from Dwarfin stature this is only somewhat correct! With the bail and release of the Dwarfins the Pawlice Officers went to spend their well-earned bribes legally acquired money to upkeep the Faireland Justice by buying extra waffles.

One of the very oldest and most amazing traditions within the Faire is the Live Auction where we sell off parts of the Fairelands for the Faire Folk to take home. After living in the Fairelands for eleven days, everyone wishes to keep at least one piece of their magic for the rest of the year. As always, bidding wars got almost out of hand and in the end earned 722,500 lindens straight into RFL kiosk on the stage. The highest seller was the Spires of Andolys build, which went for the jawdropping amount of 370,000 lindens.

Today there is no more events or schedule. However, we are keeping the portals open to the Fairelands right to that last moment when the magic fades and they vanish from right under our eyes. The enchantment keeping them connected to our world is increasingly unstable at this point and there is no knowing when the moment will come, but we are guessing they might still be within reach for a few days.

Fantasy Faire would like to thank you all for sharing our love for the Fairelands, for joining us these enchanted eleven days, and in doing so, relaying for life. We hope to see all of you next year when the Fairelands return in a new form once more, but for now there’s still a few stolen days left to shop, to hunt and to breathe in moments of magic!

Fantasy Faire has relayed L$ 7,586,125 ($ 30,345) by May 4rd, 1AM SLT. That’s right, over seven and half million lindens, resulting into over 30,000 US dollars! Thank you, Faire Folk. Thank you.

The Fantasy Faire 2015 is made possible by the generous support of our Sim and Event Sponsors: AviewTV, -AZUL-, Boudoir, Cerridwen’s Cauldron, Curious Kitties, Dandelion Daydreams Factory, Dark Unicorns of Lovelace, Death Row Designs, Dwarfins, Epic Toy Factory,  Fallen Gods Inc., The Forge, Fuubutsu Dou, Junbug, The Looking Glass, Lorin’s Sound Effects Shack, The Lost Unicorn Gallery, L’Uomo, Merchants of Dreams, The Muses, NeoVictoria, ORIONITE, OtherSkin, Plastik, Roawenwood, Safe Waters Foundation, Sanctuary RP Community, Solarium, Spyralle, Stitched. and The White Armory.

Fantasy Faire 2015

We Did It!Duchess here, coming to you live from Fantasy Faire where we just hit the 30,000 USD mark!!! A record! I am so proud of everyone who participated in making this year such a success! There is still some time to get to the Faire and show some linden love, but sadly the Faire is officially closing tonight… so you have to get here sooner, rather than later, as no one is sure the exact time the sims will fade (a little bird said there could be a few more days!!) There are 13 beautiful sims to explore like this one here, Tangleshimmer Grove, which is sponsored by Roawenwood and created by Searait! The sim is magically enchanted and a wonderful place to meditate and think. It is a favorite of fae. It is perhaps the most peaceful feeling of the sims at the Faire and one of my favorites!

I know I say this every year, but a little less than two weeks is way too short for Fantasy Faire. With only eleven days to explore 13 sims, I wish I did not have a full time job. LOL. The last day of the Faire is such a sad time for me…. And tomorrow I will be waiting in anticipation for next year’s Faire….. Hopefully next year will be longer…. One can still hope…..

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you did to make Fantasy Faire such an overwhelming success. A piece of my heart lives here and tonight it couldn’t be more swollen with pride.

Roleplay: The Rickety Weasels – Tears of Poppetsborough Finale, the Paper Wizard Freed!

Fantasy Faire 2015!
The Paper Wizard Is Freed! – Picture by Avariel Falcon

The Mouse Guardians gathered their allies today at Poppetsborough and confronted the evil that had captured the Wizard of Knowledge. Though tiny demons circled about the hand wickedly and darkness fell over the skies of Poppetsborough they had found that charity, sharing, and love weakened and eventually banished the wicked hand that clutched the Wizard of Knowledge. The tears in Poppetsborough have closed and the skies are bright and clear. The Weasels, the Poppets, and everyone extend their thanks to everyone who attended their events and helped raise over 301,000 linden over the ten days to save Poppetsborough and to fund Relay for Life.

Fantasy Faire would like to thank the Rickety Weasels for their brave efforts and deeds in saving one of the precious Fairelands and by doing so, spreading love and hope to all the realms.

Preparing To Go Home

Spires Of Andolys Towers

So the day has come to pack my bags and bid farewell to yet another Fantasy Faire. I haven’t done half as much as I wanted to do and these days have simply flown by.

I’m grateful once again to The Dwarfins team for allowing me to stay in their castle at this year’s event. The Dwarfins usually find room for me to stay when I visit the Faire. Rumours that as a Dwarfin King I demand room and board have been strenuously denied … by me.

I leave The Faire with fond memories of magical shows, light and dance, literary goodness and The Witch Of Wildehaven Marsh defiantly facing the crowd as Rynn Verwood was jailed and bailed.

I also leave The Faire with fond memories of the generous nature of visitors. As I write this journal entry I can see US$26,632 has been raised for Relay For Life, and it’s not quite over yet.

I now have to plan the journey home to The Dwarfin Kingdom, I have seen many forms of interesting transport at The Faire but I really hope that the mode of transport below is heading my way as it’s a spectacular sight to behold.
